New to the Critter Crate, the Brood, CR 1/2 to CR 4
Monday, March 23, 2009 at 09:24AM Do you like Starcraft? I do. I've played Starcraft and Brood Wars at least five times each to completion, and I am stoked for SC 2.
My brood are heavily inspired by the Zerg. You can find my take on the zergling, devouring one, and hydralisk for 3.5 D20 gaming in the Critter Crate now. Enjoy!
On Creatures that Defile and Transform You
The idea that you—your body—can be used to create a member of the enemy is horrifying. We've seen it with Alien (the movies), vampires, zombies, Dead Space (the videogames), and elsewhere. While it's become a rather commonplace idea I don't think it's lost any of its visceral power. It is the answer to the question "what would be worse than an enemy that kills you?"
Disturbingly scary...
The brood begs for a template to be applied to the creatures they assimilate. In the games, terrans (humans) could be infested and transformed into living chemical bombs that dealt massive damage to everything in their blast radius. I'd probably give it a basic claw, tentacle, or gore attack and an acidic close burst power once it is bloodied. That may be a project for another day.
