U20 FAQ > Social Issues and RPGs > Do you dress up or speak with an accent when you play? Are you supposed to?
We here at U20 never dress up, or down, to play D&D. As a casual social activity, players come as they are; what you wear isn't ever a consideration.
There is another kind of roleplaying, called Live Action Roleplaying, or LARPing, where people dress up and act out scenes and stories similar to those you might find in the average D&D game. If you're looking for more detailed information on LARPing, however, you'll need to look elsewhere.
Players and DMs sometimes use accents to make the game more lively, but it's never a requirement. The point of D&D is fun, and a big part of that can come from interacting with other characters in the game world. Just like in books, movies, or videogames, characters with personalities are memorable, and audible clues like accents can go a long way towards setting up a character's personality.
In short, if you like speaking in a british accent, and it doesn't annoy the other players (and sometimes even if it does), go nuts.
