U20 FAQ > The Game > How long does it take to play D&D?
There is no way to answer that question accurately since every game is played by different people with different goals. We should start by pointing out that a single D&D game could last for years assuming all the players kept in touch and wanted to continue playing. Some campaigns only last a single session.
The average play session is probably 5 hours long, but you could play for longer or shorter amounts. Since play options are so varied and each campaign is different, it would be impossible to have the exact same play experience twice, giving D&D tonnes of replay value, to steal a term from the videogame industry. I'm willing to spend $60.00 for a videogame that will take me 10 hours to finish. That same cash will buy me a Player's Handbook, a set of dice, and some miniatures that could provide me with thousands of hours of fun. Not a bad ROI.
